Many tourists want to experience “onsen” in Japan, but the idea of being naked in front of many people not really suit for everyone. Or if you had a tattoo then you can’t enter the public onsen. That’s why many tourists try to find private onsen including us. Sadly, not many information on the internet about private onsen in Japan. Usually in ryokan out of town or in hotel that doesn’t mention about their private onsen on their website.
So when we found this private onsen in Lake Toya, we are very happy and want to share the experience with you all.
Toya Kanko Hotel has 2 private hot spring bath. You can use it even though you are not stay in this hotel, like us. But the price is different for hotel guest and non hotel guest. We just come to the receptionist and say that we want to use the private bath, then they will prepare the bath for us. We wait for around 20 minutes (you can walk outside first and come back again) and they will hand out the key for our private bath. Usually, the private onsen only has indoor bath. But this private onsen consist of indoor and outdoor onsen. So, there are 2 plunge pools and the whole area is very spacious. We think it can fit 6 people soak together. But if you don’t like being naked in front of many people, then why bring many people in this private onsen. For couple, like us, it’s fantastic !
We like the outdoor onsen so much ! We can feel the snow and cold winter weather on our skin while soak in the hot spring water. Amazing !
The amenities are very good and complete like all japanese onsen or hotel usually provide. But please bring your own towel if you don’t want to rent from them with extra charge.
We like this experience so much, so we use this private onsen again the next day. This time they gave us the other room, so we can experience both of their 2 private room. Yeaaay !
